Can Fibreglass Pools Be Heated?

Ideally, we want our pools to be accessible every hour of the day, all round the year. To be able to enjoy a nice dip at night even when the temperature drops, or to swim during the winters. However, many pool owners believe it to be a dream that cannot be realized and it is understandable to be honest.

Owning a pool is already an added expense and installing a heating system would only drain my bank account”, this is what a majority of people think. But, they fail to take a very important fact into account: that installing a pool heating system, which makes their pool perennially accessible, would be worth the expenditure. Not only that, there is no rule that pool heating has to come with a large electricity bill.

What if we told you there’s a way to enjoy comfortingly warm swims even during the winter cold? And that too, without having to worry about additional expenses? Would you believe us? Whatever your answer is, we’ll tell you everything there is to know about heating fibreglass pools.

Do you need Pool Heating?

Your answer to this question depends on the area you live in and the type of climate usually observed there. It also a question of personal preference. If you live in a relatively warm area but the night temperature drop makes your pool off-limits, it might be a good idea to invest in a pool heating system. Most parts of the world have warmer days, colder nights and very cold winters. If you live in a place like that, it is definitely a smart choice to install a pool heating system.

No matter how harsh the sun, or how hot and humid the climate is, a pool cannot be warmed up on its own. The subtle warmth of the sun is only absorbed in the upper layers of water and the lower layers are 2 or 3 degrees less as we go deeper. A pool heating system heats up the entire pool uniformly and not just the top layer. If you spent your money getting a pool for your yard, you might as well throw in a little more and enjoy it all through the year, at your own discretion.

If lounging in the pool is your thing, you will also enjoy relaxing in water that it a bit warmer than usual. Warm water has immense recreational and therapeutic properties. If you ask us, a pool heating system would cost nowhere near the amount of satisfaction and free serotonin it gives.

Do you need Pool Heating?

To heat a pool, an owner needs to install a pool heating system. Thought all pool heating systems essentially do the same task of heating pools, not all of them are the same. There are various kinds of heating systems, with varying machinations and differing ways of heating.

Owners should make a choice of pool heating system depending on their personal needs and their locality. The second aspect comes into play to determine if electricity is expensive in their area or if they receive enough sunlight to use solar power. Other than this, choosing a pool heating system should also be subject to the personal preference of the owner. If the costs of energy are of no consequence for some owners, they might pick an electricity-based pool heating. On the other hand, those who choose differently might be swayed by the other options’ energy consumption and expenditure. Here are the three pool heating systems that an owner can choose from:

Gas

We are starting off the list with the most expensive yet functional option available. Gas-based pool heating systems are the priciest, but their reliability and efficiency is truly remarkable. Heating a pool with gas is also the quickest way of getting a warm pool, so if you’re short on time it will have your pool ready before you know it.

It is a time saver and you can shut it off as soon as the entire pool water is set at your preferred temperature. Using gas to heat the pools was once the go-to method, however, it has quickly lost its popularity with the rising prices. A gas swimming pool heating system is either run on propane or natural gas. Due to its efficient design, the heater is capable of increasing the pool water temperature by 2 to 5 degrees every hour or so. It is of great use for owners who are impulsive in regard to their pool usage and would rather not wait for their pool to heat up.

Though it is immensely functional, there are also some cons related to using a gas pool heating system. As discussed above, it is expensive. A gas heated pool might cost as much as four times the least expensive pool heating option available. This is not a small difference that can be ignored. Also, this system works on natural resources and many argue that its use is detrimental to the environment. New pool owners are overlooking this option due to its effect on the environment.

Electricity

An electric-run pool heating system is a popular option for pool owners who do not mind paying slightly more for energy use. This method is cheaper and cleaner than gas. Electric heating is the simplest way of heating the pools as it uses something that is already available in every household- electricity. As opposed to gas heating which requires the installation of a propane tank or solar-powered heating that uses solar pumps.

This system collects heat from the wind and circulates it throughout the entirety of the pool to increase its temperature. One advantage of this system is that it can work throughout the night too, unlike solar heating which can only collect sunlight during the day. It also heats the pool quicker than its solar counterpart. The downside of an electric heating system is- the electricity bill is considerable and it is nowhere as clean as solar-powered heating.

Solar Power

The cheapest and the most environmentally-conscious option of pool heating is the solar-powered pool heating system. With new innovations, the use of solar power has skyrocketed over the last few decades. It has also become a very pocket and environment-friendly option for many pool owners as well.

People can now heat their pools without feeling guilty about having an adverse effect on the environment. The solar pumps use a negligible amount of electric power and are therefore very helpful to owners worried about their electricity use.

Heating Fibreglass Pools

In conclusion, heating a fibreglass pool is not just possible, it is also ideal. Heating a pool can do so much for relaxing our brains and bodies. With fibreglass pools, heating the water becomes exponentially easier so you get more time to relieve stress and enjoy your time. Since fibreglass pools are insulators, they do not expend the water heat and retain its warmth for longer periods. The same cannot be said for concrete or vinyl pools.

In addition to this, in a fibreglass pool, your water will get warmer quicker than any other pool. Installing a heating system for your pool is very easy and all that you have to do is choose one fit for you.
